In the second Sunday of Lent, we took a journey with Jesus as he was approached by some religious leaders who warned of Herod (the Jewish King) wanting to kill him. Jesus' message had incited the political powers that be - governmental and religious. Jesus reminded them how they have historically treated those who confront the political and religious power that has turned away from God - the prophets of the Old Testament. One of the biggest failures of humanity as detailed in our Bible is being unfaithful to God.
As we journey with Jesus through the second week of the season of Lent, create some time each and every day for self and spiritual reflection. Ask yourself the following questions as you struggle with being faithful to God:
1. What was the center of our world today?
2. In what way was I faithful to God?
3. In what ways was I unfaithful to God?
4. How can I do and be better tomorrow?
Pray about this and spend some time in honest reflection considering how you can be a more faithful and devoted disciple of Jesus.
Loving God, we often feel scattered and lost, separated from you and from one another. Gather us in. Comfort us in our loneliness. Dispel our fears. Correct our wayward feet and strengthen our faith, that we might hear your voice, trust your promises, and stand firm in your ways. In your light and love, we pray. Amen.
